Strength Training South Loop FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
Have a question we didn't cover? Send us a message and we'll help point you in the right direction.
Do I have to wait for the next 8-week cycle?
Not at all! You can join Chicago Strength Club at any point during an 8-week training cycle. Our programming is structured to build strength and improve performance over time, but every workout can be adjusted to meet you where you are. Our coaches will help you get familiar with the movements, select appropriate weights, and work into the current training phase. While starting at the beginning of a cycle allows you to experience the full progression, there's no need to wait to get started.
Do I need experience with strength training?
No experience necessary. Whether you're picking up weights for the first time or have been lifting for years, our classes are designed to accommodate different experience levels. Our coaches provide instruction, demonstrate proper technique, and offer modifications or progressions based on your abilities. You'll learn the fundamentals while building the confidence to challenge yourself as you get stronger.
Do I need to be in shape before I start?
Absolutely not. You don't need to reach a certain fitness level before joining CSC—that's what training is for. Our workouts are designed to meet you at your current ability while helping you gradually improve your strength, endurance, and overall fitness. Whether you're returning after time away or starting a fitness routine for the first time, our coaches will help you find an appropriate starting point and build from there.
What types of classes do you offer?
Chicago Strength Club offers a combination of strength training, conditioning, and recovery-focused classes designed to help you build well-rounded fitness.
Strength: Our primary training program focuses on progressive resistance training, combining foundational lifts with accessory exercises to develop strength, muscle, and overall performance.
Conditioning Lab: A smaller-group training experience focused on cardiovascular endurance, athletic conditioning, and functional movements through a variety of workout formats.
Hybrid: A combination of strength and conditioning that challenges muscular endurance, cardiovascular fitness, and total-body performance.
RESET: Our Sunday training experience offers two options: Recover, focused on mobility and recovery, or Forge, a full-body strength workout for members who want an additional training day.
Our weekly programming is intentionally balanced so members can develop strength, improve conditioning, and recover effectively.
How long are classes?
Most CSC classes are approximately 45 minutes, giving you a focused, efficient workout without sacrificing quality. Each session includes a structured training plan, coach-led instruction, and purposeful exercises designed to make the most of your time. We recommend arriving 5–10 minutes early, especially for your first class, so you have time to get settled and prepare for the workout.
How do your 8-week cycles work?
Our training follows structured 8-week cycles designed to help you make measurable progress rather than simply complete random workouts.
Each cycle is divided into four two-week phases:
- Prep: Establish proper technique, movement patterns, and a foundation for the weeks ahead.
- Progress: Gradually increase training demands through weight, volume, or exercise progression.
- Strength: Focus on developing strength and improving performance in the cycle's primary lifts.
- Perform: Put your training to the test, measure progress, and see how far you've come.
Each cycle features specific strength movements and complementary conditioning workouts. By following a progressive plan, you can build on previous weeks, track improvements, and train with a clear purpose.
Do I have to lift heavy?
Not necessarily. While building strength is a major focus at CSC, lifting heavy is relative to your individual abilities and goals. Our coaches help you choose weights that challenge you appropriately while maintaining proper technique. Some workouts focus on heavier resistance, while others emphasize muscular endurance, movement quality, or controlled repetitions. The goal is to progress safely and consistently—not to lift the heaviest weight in the room.
How do you track progress?
We believe progress should be measurable, not just something you feel after a workout. Throughout each 8-week cycle, we encourage members to track their weights, repetitions, and performance on key strength movements. Our programming includes opportunities to reassess those lifts and see how your strength develops over time.
We also have an **InBody body composition scanner**, which provides detailed measurements of body fat percentage, skeletal muscle mass, and other key body composition metrics. This allows members to monitor changes beyond the number on the scale and gain a better understanding of how their bodies are responding to training.
Progress isn't just about lifting heavier or losing weight. Improved technique, increased endurance, changes in body composition, and greater confidence are all meaningful signs of progress. Our goal is to help you see and understand the results of your hard work.
Do you offer Personal Training?
Yes! We offer one-on-one personal training for individuals who want a more customized approach to their fitness goals. Whether you're new to strength training, working on specific movements, building strength, or looking for additional accountability, our coaches can provide individualized instruction and programming.
Personal training sessions are available individually or in packages. We also offer Club Plus memberships, which combine unlimited group classes with two personal training sessions per month and designated open gym access.
Do you offer Open Gym?
Yes. Open Gym is available to eligible members during designated hours, allowing you to train independently outside our scheduled group classes. It's a great opportunity to work on specific lifts, practice technique, or complete additional training at your own pace.
Our current Open Gym hours are 9:00–11:30 AM and 1:00–4:30 PM, subject to studio availability. Open Gym access is included with Club Plus memberships and is not automatically included with standard Club memberships.

Come dressed in comfortable athletic clothing and supportive training shoes, and bring a water bottle. We provide the equipment you'll need for your workout, so there's no need to bring your own weights or other training gear.
We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early for your first visit so you can meet your coach, get familiar with the studio, and ask any questions before class begins. Most importantly, come ready to learn, challenge yourself, and have a great workout!
What if I have an injury or movement limitation?
We understand that everyone moves differently, and not every exercise is appropriate for every person. Our coaches can offer modifications, alternative movements, and adjustments to help accommodate certain physical limitations while keeping you engaged in the workout.
Please let your coach know about any injuries, discomfort, or movement restrictions before class begins. If you're recovering from an injury or managing a medical condition, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider to confirm which activities are appropriate before participating. Our goal is to help you train effectively while respecting your body's needs.
